CKB.MDS Architecture is the synergy of two architectural practices coming together to form a new diverse entity with strengthened design collaboration and to respond to transformation and change. Formed in 2018, CKB.MDS Architecture subscribes to the principles of distinctive design and a strong philosophy toward black economic empowerment. The practice is 51% majority black owned, with the remaining equity coming from experienced architects, passionate about design excellence based on technical expertise and creative planning

MDS Architecture is one of the oldest established architectural firms in South Africa. From the earliest days after its formation in 1954, the common thread throughout its work is the fine balance maintained between design excellence and commercial consideration.

The ability to accurately interpret the requirements of clients has led to enduring relationships with developers and financial institutions.

Although MDS Architecture has a staff complement of over 40 people, all projects are led by one of the firm’s eight partners. Despite its size, the culture and ethos is one of an intimate practice. That is the key to delivering the thoughtful, original and contemporary architecture which has become the hallmark of buildings designed by MDS Architecture.
